The beautifulPerth display at the 2009 Gardening Scotland show at Ingliston won not only an official Silver Award but scooped the Sunday Post's People's Choice accolade.
The beautifulPerth entry, entitled O'Hame and Infancy, was awared an RHS Silver Award. The many appreciative glances and comments from passing admirers helped us to win the national newspaper's People's Choice prize. The recognition was a testament to the thought, planning and work that went into creating a display of which the team that put it togther can be proud. The scene depicted a stag leaping over a dry stane wall. The turf and varied heather collection represented the principal characteristics of rural Perthshire and the inspiration for the display came from the beauty of Perthshire, from Lady Nairne of Gask's famous traditional verse Oh Rowan Tree and from this year's Homecoming celebration.
The work was supervised by Environmental Initiatives Officer Scott Taylor who was delighted with the awards, commenting: "The design and construction was all done by young 14-16 year old boys and girls on Rural Horticultural skills training. Local primary kids also helped with the planting and so the whole display was a credit to the youngsters. They were tickled pink that their efforts were so well received." The whole display will now be reassembled at the Black Watch Museum in Balhousie Street in Perth as part of the Black Watch's contribution to the Homecoming's celebrations and it will accordingly be on public view. |
