beautifulPerth scooped another gold and category winner awards at the 2009 Beautiful Scotland Ceremony in Aberdeen on 21 September and have been invited back into Britain in Bloom for 2010.
Perth maintained its place in recent Beautiful Scotland lore with another excellent showing at the 2009 award ceremony held in Aberdeen's Beach ballroom. It also narrowly missed out on the Champion of Champions rosebowl, but has been nominated to lead Scotland's charge into next year's Britain in Bloom competition. Judges Andy Malcolm and Keith Scirmgeour said of Perth; "Very high horticultural standards are evident throughout with permanent horticultural features in key areas, making Perth an attractive place to visit. Bedding was complemented by sustainable and permanent planting. The baskets at commercial premises add greatly to the overall impression of the town." The performance was rewarded with a gold medal and the category winner award. Perth and Kinross Council also picked up the RHS Caledonian plate for local authority effort. Keep Scotland Beautiful chairman John Summers was also fulsome in his praise of Perth when announcing the results and it is gratifying to see that, even in spite of increasing standards nationally, Perth continues to keep ahead of the field. Other notable triumphs on a wonderful day for Perthshire and Kinross-shire were golds medals and category wins for Comrie and Muthill and a category win and Silver Gilt medal for Scotlandwell. Comrie also won the best village performance and an award for continuous community involvement, and Muthill was runner-up in the best overall village trophy. These two communities have also been invited to fly the saltire in next year's Britain in Bloom competition. Blair in Bloom won a Silver Gilt award and Brig in bloom a Silver in their respective cetegories.
