Perth is set to be judged in the 2010 Britian in Bloom competition on.......Friday 13th August!

The beautifulPerth committee hope that the date will remain insignificant as the Fair City attempts to keep up a remarkable showing in the UK's blue riband environmental contest. Since its biennial entry in 2000, Perth has won its category each time and has scooped a gold medal in the last two competitions. The medal system was introduced four years ago.

Chair of beautifulPerth Euna Scott isn't taking anything for granted, saying; "The competition seems to get harder every time and we can never take anything for granted. We know that many, many people come to Perth every year to visit and to spend their money because they know they'll see wonderful floral displays, imaginative public art and high level interpretation. We'll have to do our usual job trying to show the judges what we have and impress those who come to assess us. The summer has been quite good so far and we hope it continues!"

It is to be hoped that Perth can do itself proud on its 800th birthday. A special bed commemorating the year has been planted by local schoolchildren at Perth Leisure Pool and this adds to the special springtime display at Broxden. Fingers crossed!
